Daisy Peterson Sweeney, the older sister of Oscar Peterson, taught Oscar to play the piano along with many others. She gave piano lessons to the community of Little Burgundy in Montreal, where she was born and raised, mostly to the neighbourhood children. Daisy went on to accomplish a lot more in her field of music.

Fun Fact: Ms. Sweeney taught our Shelley and her siblings to play the piano, recorder, and ukulele.
Shelley says:
"Unfortunately, I did not continue to play these instruments. My brother, Stephen, had great talent and learned to play any instrument given to him...we only paid $10 for all three siblings...next to nothing for her time...we did not even have a piano but she provided us with a piano made out of cardboard and we practiced on it. We never knew what the music piece sounded like until we went to the lesson with the real piano...lol...she thought the Samuels kids played better than the kids with the real piano. And I did not know she was Oscar's sister until she died a few years ago."
